2010's trips so far.

A few small jaunts around Europe

Ok so i have yet to leave for Thailand, but that's no need to be shy on the picy front!

February saw another trip to my favourite city, Athens. It was a trip with my Classical Greek Cities course at university and we spent 4 nights in a hostel i have stayed in before, the Athens Backpackers. It was spent basically wandering around all of the ancient sites in Athens and getting lectures from Janett our lecturer.

Kissonerga, Cyprus

July saw me shoot over to Cyprus for some archaeological field work. I stayed in a school in the small village of Kissonerga which was an amazing place. It was a busy yet super fun couple of weeks with plenty of history, archaeology, adventure and drinking.

Driving up to the mountains, only to walk all the way down again! There is some amazing country on this island.

Sunrise over Kissonerga village. Had the 'pleasure' of seeing this everyday!

Avakas Gorge in NW Cyprus. An amazing 3 mile long river valley that ends with this spectacular gorge! Taking us 3 hours to walk its length it is one of the best hikes around, Climbing down dried up waterfalls and dodging wild Goats are some of the highlights.

Welcome people!

overcast

A blog.
I have never written a blog before, i can barely use facebook let along write a blog that people will give a damn about. But i have started this here travel blog because for some unknown reason i feel the urge to share the places i go and the things i do whilst there. It is probably because i like to hear what other people are getting up to in this beautiful world of ours myself and assume that everyone is just like me!

So here we are, it is approaching winter in the UK and as we know that can get very depressing. Yet I am lucky enough to be leaving the UK on the 9th of November on a beeline straight to SE Asia, Bangkok to be exact, to avoid this winter by taking in the delights of this popular part of the world.

Why am i going? Why am i not sorting my life out after graduating from university back in July? I could write that i have a need of gaining some kind of spiritual clarity or that i want to go and be immersed in a culture so polar to ours. Or maybe i want to go and gain some perspective on this world, see how the other half live (so my rants can be fully justified!). But that would only be half-truth. I'm sure all of these things will happen, and I'm happy they will, but the main reason i am jacking this place in for a few months is simply for a dose of escapism. I get fed up easily at home and my life needs to be broken up by trips to new places. This is why i have chosen to get into a career that requires me to travel and learn at the same time, archaeology.

Anyway, i will attempt to throw some pictures up on here as often as i can.
